An employee's own pet dog brought to work, as distinct from an assistance or service animal protected by law.

Definition

An employee's own pet dog brought to work, as distinct from an assistance or service animal protected by law.

Part of the Roch Dog Workplace Standard (RDWS-01) · Published by Roch Dog

A dog an employee brings to work as their own companion animal. This standard governs companion dogs.

A companion dog is not an assistance or service animal. The rights of assistance and service animals, and of any animal an employer is required by law to accommodate, are governed by applicable law and sit above this standard. The terms of this standard, including the co-worker opt-out, apply to companion dogs only.

Roch Interpretation

The line matters. A companion dog is governed by this standard; an animal the law requires the employer to accommodate is not, and is never overridden by it.
