Claims and the Mark

The standard is open to read. Certification and the mark are earned through Roch Dog, never self-declared.

Open to read, closed to claim

The Roch Dog Residence Standard is published openly to read. Anyone may read, understand, cite, and teach it, free of charge, anywhere in the world, and we encourage that. The one condition is attribution: cite it as the Roch Dog Residence Standard (RDRS-01), and do not alter the text and republish it as the standard. Roch Dog remains the author and steward of the canonical text.

But reading the standard is not adopting it, and confers no right to claim any association with it. A property does not become "built to", "designed to", "aligned with", "following", or "operating to" the standard by reading it, and may not describe itself that way. There is no self-declared tier.

Use is by Roch Dog authorisation only

A property is placed in relation to this standard only through Roch Dog. Authorisation comes either by Roch Dog certification, or under a Roch Dog licence. To enquire about certifying or licensing a property, get in touch. Until a property is authorised, it may state only facts about its own dog policy, with no reference to the standard, its name, or its marks.

The mark is protected

"Roch Dog Residence Certified" is the Roch Dog certification mark, and the right to use it, and to display the mark, seal, or badge, is reserved to properties Roch Dog has authorised, and only while that authorisation is current. Using the word "certified" in connection with this standard, or displaying the mark, without a current Roch Dog authorisation is a misuse of the Roch Dog marks. We protect the mark and will act wherever we detect misuse.

Seen a claim you are not sure about?

We keep a record of every property Roch Dog has authorised, so any claim is easy to check. If you believe a property is claiming Roch Dog Residence certification it has not earned, write to us and we will confirm or deny it.

Inquire about licensing

If you'd like to apply for a license to certify against this standard, we welcome your application. Tell us a little below and we'll be in touch about what a license involves.
